Lionel Richie Can’t Go ‘All Night Long’ Anymore (Yes, He Means What You Think)
Lionel Richie released his hit “All Night Long” in 1983. Forty years later, the track still holds up, but some things have definitely changed.
Richie was asked about the track when he appeared onΒ The View yesterday (March 28) with fellowΒ American IdolΒ judges Katy Perry and Luke Bryan. Particularly, he was asked what the track was about. (Wink, wink.)
The music icon didn’t hesitate and said, “When I wrote ‘All Night Long,’ it was truly all night long. Now my ‘all night long’ is down to a fierce 15 minutes. But don’t worry about it, we’ll talk about it later.”
This led to a large laugh from the studio audience, but then Perry chimed in. She said, “Is this show live? Fifteen minutes, that’s long, bud!” Perry then extended her hand, and Richie shook it and said, “Damn, right!” A visibly uncomfortable Bryan then extended his hand and hesitantly said, “Yeah, Lionel!”
Richie is hitting the road this summer with Earth, Wind & Fire on a 20-date North American tour. A full list of dates is below, and tickets are available at LiveNation.com.
