Two locations
The family-run business was founded in 2015 by brothers Jerome Brown and Samuel Van Buren. They went from operating remotely to a brick-and-mortar location where customers could call in and pick up orders. They have two locations in Detroit, one at 2900 East 8 Mile Road and one at 14300 East Jefferson.
Various menu options are available, from catfish sandwiches, ribs, meatloaf, and fried chicken, to peach cobbler, cheesecakes, and pound cake.
“The mac ‘n’ cheese is popular with customers, while the pork chops, catfish, and fried chicken are also worth checking out,” said the publication.
Reviews
Many Yelp reviews back up the claim of Detroit Soul as the best soul food restaurant in the state. “Possibly the best fried chicken in the city, be prepared to wait a while on your order because everything is made fresh while you wait …but the wait is worth it,” said one review.
Another review said that Detroit Soul was the best soul food they had tasted at a restaurant in a long time. “I highly recommend this restaurant! Detroit Soul makes Detroit Proud!”
