In Michigan, they named Ann Arbor as the most hippie town in the state. They said that over the years, “Ann Arbor may have grown to be more yuppie than hippie, but it still draws counter-culture freaks both young and old.” Also, highlighted was Ann Arbor’s annual Hash Bash festival.
Ann Arbor was the site of a Freedom Rally at Crisler Arena in 1971. When music and politics collided. It was mostly oriented around freeing John Sinclair, a poet who advocated strongly for the legalization of marijuana. John Lennon actually wrote a song about him.
Each year, on the first Saturday in April, Michigan cannabis enthusiasts flood into the streets of Ann Arbor for the festival and Monroe Street Fair, featuring speeches, live music, and booths from some of the biggest names in the cannabis industry.
They mentioned Michigan having some of the “most lenient marijuana possession laws in the country.” The state legalized recreational marijuana in 2020, and cities across the state immediately started getting business licenses to open retail shops.
