Powerball + Mega Millions Jackpots: A Shot At Millions Continues

There’s a ton of cash piling up in the Powerball and Mega Millions jackpots. And Michigan Lottery players have a shot at bagging over $922 million. Tonight’s Powerball jackpot is sitting at $522 million, with a cash option of $269.6 million. If someone manages to hit the jackpot tonight, it would be the second-biggest Powerball win of the year.

The last time the Powerball jackpot was won was back in April. At that time, some lucky person from Ohio scored a sweet $252.6 million. The last Michigan player to hit big was Cristy Davis from Waterford, who walked away with $70 million on February 12, 2020. The most recent Mega Millions jackpot win occurred in April when a lucky individual from New York grabbed $20 million by matching all five white balls and the Mega ball.

Mega Millions Drawings

The Mega Millions jackpot for this Friday’s drawing has shot up to an estimated $427 million, with a cash option of $220.6 million. The drawings happen twice a week, and you can expect them to kick off around 11 p.m. ET every Tuesday and Friday. But here’s the thing, nobody hit the jackpot this time around by matching all six numbers. If a player did win Tuesday’s Mega Millions jackpot, it would have been the third-largest Mega Millions jackpot won this year.

A lucky person in Missouri did manage to match all five numbers, missing only the Mega Ball. That means they snagged $1 million. Another player in Idaho matched the same five numbers. But went the extra mile and added the Megaplier option, skyrocketing their prize to $3 million.

The largest amount ever won in Michigan

In Michigan, the last time the Mega Millions jackpot was won was in January 2021 by an Oakland County lottery club. This fortunate club struck gold with a $1.05 billion Mega Millions jackpot, which happens to be the largest ever won in Michigan. As well as the sixth largest in U.S. lottery history.

It costs $2 per play, and if you’re feeling extra lucky, you can toss in an extra dollar for the “Megaplier” to multiply your non-jackpot prizes up to five times. Mega Millions tickets are sold in 45 states, Washington D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

You still have plenty of time to grab your tickets for both drawings. The Powerball tickets will be on sale until 9:45 p.m. tonight at lottery retailers all over the state. And if you’re eyeing the Mega Millions, you can purchase tickets until 10:45 p.m. on Friday night. You can also hop online and get your tickets at MichiganLottery.com.

Now, when it comes to the Powerball, the drawings happen at 10:59 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday. You can even catch the excitement live on the Powerball website. For just an extra buck, you can opt for the “Power Play” and multiply your non-jackpot winnings by up to 10 times, with a max of $2 million.

Living Large: Michigan's Wealthiest Counties

Wealthy areas are the kind of places where you’ll find beautiful homes, well-manicured streets, and a sense of luxury in the air. Along with the stunning residences, these areas offer top-notch services like private schools, exclusive clubs, and upscale shopping centers. Safety is a priority too, with gated communities, private security, and advanced security systems ensuring peace of mind. Of course, you can’t forget about wealthy areas flooded with well-kept parks, golf courses, and country clubs. But what is the wealthiest county in Michigan?

A recent study by SmartAsset shows the wealthiest counties in the U.S. To figure out which counties are rolling in the dough, they looked at investment income, property value, and how much cash each person is raking in on average.

“We started the analysis by calculating the Investment Index for each county by evenly weighing the Ordinary Dividends, Qualified Dividends, and Net Capital Gains. From there, we calculated the Median Home Value and the Per Capita Income for each county, and ranked them on all three metrics,” SmartAsset wrote.

The study revealed that Leelanau County, nestled near Traverse City and known for its wineries along the Lake Michigan coast, takes the crown as Michigan’s wealthiest county. With its picturesque Leelanau Peninsula and a population of approximately 23,000, this small northern Michigan county has the highest per-capita wealth in the state. Nationally, Leelanau County had an overall rank of 266.

Wealthiest Counties in The U.S.

When it comes to the richest counties in the nation, California counties consistently find themselves at the top of the ranking. San Mateo County, San Francisco County, Santa Clara County, and Marin County all secured spots in the top five richest counties in the United States. However, breaking California’s streak, Nantucket County in Massachusetts claimed the fifth spot on the ranking.
