Bettors Think Dan Campbell Could Win Coach of the Year This Time
Remember when everyone thought that Dan Campbell would win NFL Coach of the Year last year, and he didn’t? That was a bummer for Detroit Lions fans. But, the good news is that bettors think he has another shot this year. In fact, bettors think Dan Campbell will win NFL Coach of the Year this time, and they’re really putting their money on it.
Dan Campbell Could Win Coach of the Year
Campbell is the favorite to win Coach of the Year by a lot. Of all the cash bet on the title, 33.6% is on Campbell (via Yahoo! Sports), which is roughly what he had last season. After him, the next coach is under 10%, so he’s the favorite by far. Who follows Campbell? It’s Sean Payton of the Denver Broncos and Matt Eberflus of the Indianapolis Colts at +1100.
So, what makes Campbell so popular? As Yahoo! Sports explains, “Campbell’s personality makes him one of the more recognizable NFL coaches. He came in with an ex-player’s mentality, famously saying he wanted his players to bite off opponents’ kneecaps.” Of course, being on “Hard Knocks” didn’t hurt. America fell in love with Campbell’s personality, and when he started winning games, that just made them love him more. “The Lions are one of the buzzy teams of the offseason after a strong finish to last season, and it makes sense to like Campbell again in the Coach of the Year market,” Yahoo! Sports adds. I would love to see Campbell get his honor. If the Lions do as well as people expect, I really can’t seem the NFL not recognizing him as the NFL Coach of the Year. That said, if the season goes sour, he probably won’t be a contender. Fingers crossed for a great run for the Lions in the upcoming season.
