Green Bay Packers Lose, and All is Right With the World Again
It was a dark and dismal Sunday for Detroit Lions fans. After a surprising and embarrassing slaughtering by the Chicago Bears on Dec. 10, nothing seemed right. Even watching the Cowboys take down NFC champs the Eagles didn’t take the pain away. Seeing the somewhat cocky Kansas City Chiefs fall to the Buffalo Bills didn’t help, either. None of the usual fixes – Ben & Jerry’s, retail therapy, Smirnoff – none of them worked. But, then, something magical happened. Something beautiful and unexpected. The only thing that could put a smile on Detroit Lions fans’ faces happened on Monday night, and it was glorious. Oh, so glorious. Now, all is right with the world again.
The Green Bay Packers lost. That’s right. Our NFC North rivals fell to the New York Giants. The Giants! This event would have been sweet no matter what, but what made it even better was the fact that the Packers have become something of NFC North darlings even since their brutal win over the Lions on Thanksgiving Day.
I mean, the Lions have been grinding since day one this season. We beat Kansas City on the road for the first game of the season. Following that, we fought hard to get win after win. But, with that one Thanksgiving Day loss, suddenly, everyone was singing Green Bay’s praises. “Oh, this Jordan Love is one of the most impressive quarterbacks of the season.” “Green Bay are going to be a Wild Card team!” “Green Bay are what the Lions were early in the season.”
But, it’s over. All the hype and ridiculous buzz about Green Bay is silent. What’s more, all of the upsets that happened during NFL Week 14 are muzzling those who were slamming the Lions with negative comments after the Bears loss. Let’s look at those upsets. The same night the Packers fell to the Giants, the Miami Dolphins lost to the Tennessee Titans. It was a home game for Miami, too. Geez. On Sunday, the Philadelphia Eagles got totally wrecked by the Dallas Cowboys. A Seahawks win over the 49ers would have been great, but it didn’t happen. I already mentioned the Chiefs’ loss. Also, let’s not talk about the riveting 3-0 Vikings win over the Raiders.
Yes, my friend, all is right with the world again. Enjoy it. Also, to my Green Bay friends, I hope you find this post funny and in good spirit, which is how I intended it. I have nothing but love for you. Listen to my podcast, “The Squad with Anne Erickson,” below. This week’s guest is Joe Chapp from Detroit Lions News Podcast.
