What’s Your Chance of Having Twins in Michigan? Surprising Stats
Have you ever wanted to have twins? If so, do you think you’re more likely to have twins in certain states? Well, there’s a new study out about twins, and it’s really surprising. It actually looks at all the states and rates them in terms of how likely you are to have twins and triplets in each state. So, what’s your chance of having twins in Michigan?
Gambling.com, a site that “expertly reviews and compares gambling services to identify the best regulated operators and products available online,” has done a study to find the states where moms are the most and least likely to have twins. They conducted this study in honor of National Twin Day, which is on Dec. 18. For this study, the site “utilized official CDC data on twin and triplet births from 2018-2020 across America in order to reveal in which states you are most likely to be born a twin.”
Before we get to twins, let’s look at triplets in the U.S. For triplets, the site’s data determined that “Nebraska residents have the highest chance of giving birth to triplets in America with 162.30 per 100,000 births.” No. 2 was Wyoming, followed by Utah, Alabama and North Dakota to round out the top five.
For twins, “the research showed that Michigan residents have the highest chance of giving birth to twins in America with 35.8 per 1,000 births,” according to the site. No. 2 was Connecticut, followed by Alabama, Nebraska and South Dakota. For kicks, I looked up some national twin data from CDC.gov. According to the data, there were 114,161 twin births in the U.S. in 2021. Also, there were 2,785 triplet births during that time period. That number goes way down for quadruplet and other higher order births at just 148. For more information on the twins study, go here. This unique name caught this person off guard. They even tried to figure it out by mixing it with other names. “I once saw a baby announcement where the mom was named Shannon, the dad was Daniel, and they named the baby Shanniel,” they wrote.

Dyslexia
Sometimes people just go with the flow when picking a name for their kid. Maybe it felt right at the time, and they didn’t even realize it’s also the name of a condition. While working at a gas station, this Reddit user observed a mother who let her child run around wild. They wrote “One small girl was pushing on a display stand and the mother screamed: ‘DYSLEXIA GET YO A– OVER HERE!”

Donnaria
Back in school on the playground, this person probably had a rough time. This is particularly true because their name coincidentally rhymes with a sexually transmitted disease. Nevertheless, a user pointed out that it’s a clever fusion of two names. “Donnaria. A combination of her Mom’s name (Donna) and Grandma’s name (Gloria),” they wrote.
Alcoholic Beverages
Bacardi, Hennessy, Tanqueray, Alizé – the names keep coming. It turns out a Redditor, who happened to work in children and family services, encountered kids with names inspired by alcoholic beverages almost every day. “You don’t know how bad it really gets. Lots of kids named after alcoholic beverages.”
