The Unlikely Team That Could Take Out the Detroit Lions in the Playoffs
How amazing does it feel to be NFC North champions? As everyone knows by now, it’s the first time the Detroit Lions have won their division in 30 years. It was certainly a merry Christmas for Lions fans this year, as we were able to celebrate this stunning moment over the holiday. But, now, it’s time to get back to work. So, what’s the current playoff picture, and who could take out the Detroit Lions in the playoffs?
Benjamin Raven of MLive.com was actually at that Lions-Vikings game, in the press box and in the locker room after the big win. He’s the guest on “The Squad with Anne Erickson” this week and talks all about the electrifying experience. That probably beat my experience of watching the game at home. But, hey, it was still an absolute thrill to see the Lions become NFC North champions.
Raven and I also talk about the playoff picture. That currently has the Lions up against either the Seattle Seahawks, the L.A. Rams, Green Bay Packers or Minnesota Vikings in their first playoff game. According to the New York Times, the teams vying to take on Detroit in that first playoff game are the Hawks, Rams, Packers and Vikings. Right now, the Hawks and Rams are tied with a 68% chance of making the playoffs, while the Packers and Vikings are tied with a 28% chance. The Chicago Bears somehow have a 1% chance, by the way.
Raven and I both agree that the team that could shock everyone and take Detroit down in the playoffs isn’t even Matthew Stafford and the Rams. It’s Seattle. There’s something about the Seattle Seahawks that they’ve been able to overcome Detroit over and over the past few years. They also have Kenneth Walker III, a former Spartans who is one of the league’s best running backs. Their quarterback Geno Smith has also really tripped up the Lions. Raven and I also talk about the Christmas Day games, upcoming NFL Week 17 and more.
