Updated Detroit Lions Playoff Picture: Who Will We Play in the Playoffs?
Well, the Detroit Lions “lost” to the Dallas Cowboys over the weekend. Then, the Philadelphia Eagles had to go and lost to the Arizona Cardinals and really make Lions fans wish the Cowboys game had gone a different way. So, what’s the updated Detroit Lions playoff picture?
The Detroit Lions will be No. 2 or No. 3 seed in the NFC. It’s obviously much more likely that we’ll be No. 3 seed. So, how would we make the No. 2 seed?
Detroit would be No. 2 seed if the Lions beat the Vikings next weekend, the Cowboys lose on the Commanders’ turf and the Eagles lose at the Giants. Of those scenarios, I think the Cowboys losing at the Commanders is the least likely. However, the fact it’s not a home game for the Cowboys should make it more difficult for them. But, it’s the Commanders, so there’s that. It’s also unlikely that the Eagles will lose to the Giants. But, they did just lose to the Cardinals, so there’s that.
If any of those things don’t fall into place, Detroit will be No. 3 seed. So, if we’re No. 3 seed, who would we play? Here’s that updated Detroit Lions playoff picture.
That’s where things get interesting. As things currently stand, the Lions would host the Rams, who are the No. 6 seed right now. But, for the Rams to stay No. 6 seed, they have to beat the 49ers. I, personally, don’t see that happening. So, if the Rams lose to the 49ers and the Packers beat the Bears in Week 18, the Packers would actually snag the No. 6 seed and see Detroit at Ford Field in the playoffs. Also, if the Lions win, we could get a rematch against the Cowboys. If the Lions get the No. 2 seed, there are several teams they could come up against, with the most likely being the Rams, Seahawks, Buccaneers, Packers or Saints. The Vikings could still make the playoffs, too, if they beat the Lions this Sunday, and if some other games fall into place. Give me your thoughts here.
