Legendary hip hop producer and artist, Dr. Dre, was recently honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Friends and associates Snoop Dogg, Eminem, 50 Cent and former record executive, Jimmy Iovine, were in attendance when Dr. Dre was honored on March 19th. Iovine and Snoop both took the podium to talk about their love and appreciation for Dre and all he’s given to hip hop.
When Dre spoke, he said, “I’ve been fortunate enough to make a living doing exactly what I love to do. Over the course of my career, I’ve had the privilege of finding and nurturing new talent as well as pushing the boundaries in hip hop both in content and substance.”
Dre’s star is certainly well deserved. He’s written and produced some of the biggest hits in the history of hip hop music for himself and others, including 6 number 1 singles in the U.S.
He’s an 8-time Grammy winner, 3-time American Music Award winner and he won a Primetime Emmy Award for producing the 2022 Super Bowl Half-Time Show performance. Billboard named him the greatest rap producer of all time.
Hollywood Walk of Fame Stars Have a Rich History
Pedestrians pass stars on the Walk of Fame sidewalk on Hollywood Boulevard.
Established in 1960, the Hollywood Walk of Fame has nearly 2800 five-pointed, terrazzo-and-brass stars that weigh around 300 lbs each, embedded in the sidewalks along 15 blocks of Hollywood Boulevard and 3 blocks of Vine Street in Hollywood, California.
The Walk of Fame runs 1.3 miles, east to west on Hollywood Boulevard, from Gower Street to the Hollywood and La Brea Gateway at La Brea Avenue. There’s also a short segment on Marshfield Way that runs diagonally between Hollywood Boulevard and La Brea. And a 0.4 mile stretch that runs north to south on Vine Street between Yucca Street and Sunset Boulevard.
