Free Health Screenings, Brandy All For “Moesha” Reunion, Lizzo Quits
In today’s Shannon’s Scoop, the Detroit Health Department is offering free health screenings this week, Brandy says she’d be all for a “Moesha” reunion, and is Lizzo quitting music?
First of The Month Reminder & Special Shout Out

It’s the first of the month, and as a breast cancer survivor, I would like to give you a little reminder to do your self exams and schedule your mammograms. Please, make sure that you get that done.
I didn’t get a chance to mention this, but the other weekend I emceed a hockey game to benefit the American Cancer Society with a bunch of Detroit Red Wings alumni. And I have to give a special shout out to a very special young lady. She’s 12-years-old and her name is Nella. The event was inspired by her mom who passed away from cancer.
Nella wants to be a singer and she sang the National Anthem at the event. It was her very first time singing in front of a crowd and the microphone cut out. It died halfway through and I just nudged her like, ‘keep going’. So, everyone kind of helped her out to finish the song and when she came off the ice I told her, “You’re battle tested. Like, what else could possibly go wrong now? Keep going for it.” I was sure to ask her for an autograph and all this stuff before she gets famous. It was a great event and Nella is a super talented young lady.
Detroit Health Department Free Screenings
It’s Public Health Week and the Detroit Health Department is offering up free health screenings all week long.
This week kicks off Public Health Week and the Detroit Health Department is offering residents general health screenings and activities. They’ll have blood pressure checks, glucose, cholesterol, kidney function, fitness classes. They’ll even offer CPR training, some mental health makeovers, lead screenings and so much more. All of those screenings will take place at the Detroit Health Department. There’s some police precincts and recreation centers involved as well.
It’s all free and it starts today through Saturday. So, get yourself checked out and take care of yourself. They’re switching locations daily, so you’ll need to know where those are at for each day this week. Find the locations and learn more at this link.
Brandy is Receptive to a “Moesha” Reunion
Brandy and her castmates William Allen Young, Yvette Wilson, Shar Jackson, Ray J, Marcus T. Paulk, Lamont Bentley, And Sheryl Lee Ralph celebrate the 100Th episode of “Moesha”.
Brandy was asked recently in an interview if she would do a reunion special for “Moesha” like the did for “Martin” and she said, “I would actually love that. I haven’t seen the cast in a long time. I would love to see everybody and see how everybody’s doing and see what everybody is up. I’m so supportive of everybody. I haven’t talked to anybody, but I’m very supportive.”
I’d be down for that. We’ll have to keep an eye out for that if it does happen.
Lizzo Says She’s Quitting
Lizzo has had enough of the criticism she’s had to endure and claims that she’s quitting the music business.
Lizzo took to her Instagram on Friday and announced that she is supposedly, allegedly, taking a step back from the music industry.
She opened up about some struggles she’s been having. Lizzo said, “I’m getting tired of putting up and getting dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet. All I want is to make music and make people happy and help the world be a little bit better than how I found it. But I’m starting to feel like the world doesn’t want me in it.”
She continued, “I’m constantly up against lies being told about me for clout and views, being the butt of the joke every single time because of how I look and my character being picked apart by people who don’t know me and disrespecting my name. I didn’t sign up for this ish. I quit.”
Dang. I think people react in the moment. Hopefully she posted that because she was feeling a certain kind of way at that time. I just don’t see her exiting music. We’ll have to see what happens.
