Discounted Rides Home on Opening Day, Lizzo Clarifies “Quitting”, Neptunes Legal Battle
In today’s Shannon’s Scoop, Wallside Windows wants to make sure everyone gets home safe from downtown on opening day by offering half-off rides from Lyft, Lizzo clarifies what she meant when she said, “I quit”, Pharrell and Chad Hugo in legal battle over The Neptunes name!
Wallside Offering Half-Off Lyft Rides on Opening Day
Friday is a big day for the City of Detroit. It’s opening day for the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park. If you’re planning on going down there, we want you to stay safe. So, Wallside Windows is offering discounted rides on Lyft.
You just have to enter the promo code WALLSIDE2024 in the Lyft app before requesting a ride and then they’ll pay for half of the cost up to $30.
Shout out to the Tigers, by the way. They’ve started the season 4-0. They’ll play in New York against the Mets tonight and tomorrow afternoon. So, that would be cool if they stay undefeated when they host the Oakland A’s at Comerica on Friday.
And Mean Jean and I are both going to be downtown on opening day. I’m going to be at the Old Shillelagh from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM and Jean will be at Bert’s on Brush from 10;30 AM to 1:30 PM. We’ll have tons of prizes and they’re going to have a free shuttle to Comerica Park if you’re going to the game. So come out and see us!
When Lizzo Said, “I Quit”, She Didn’t Mean Music
On Monday, I told you that Lizzo was quitting music after making the following post. She said, “I’m tired of putting up with getting dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet. All I want is to make music, and make people happy, and help the world be a little bit better than how I found it. I’m starting to feel like the world doesn’t want me in it. I’m constantly up against lies being told about me for clout and views, being the butt of every joke because of how I look. I didn’t sign up for this. I quit.”
Well, now she’s supposedly clarifying because lawyers for the women who are currently suing her for an allegedly hostile workplace environment said, “It’s a joke that Lizzo would say she’s being bullied by the internet. She should instead be taking an honest look at herself. Her latest post is just another outburst seeking attention and trying to deflect from her own failings. She has thrown these childish tantrums before. No one actually believes she is quitting music. But she should quit sexually harassing, shaming, and bullying her employees and finally accept responsibility for her actions.”
So, yesterday Lizzo posted a response and said, “I just need to clarify, when I say ‘I quit’, I mean, I quit giving any negative energy attention. What I’m not going to quit is the joy of my life, which is making music, which is connecting to people because I know I’m not alone. With that being said, I’m going to keep moving forward. I’m going to keep being me. The love that I’ve received means more than you know.”
When people post stuff like this I always like to look at the comments underneath to see who’s thinking what I’m thinking. And to me it seems like a lot of are like, so over her and everything. That’s just how the comments come across to me. People saying, ‘It’s always something’ with her. Like, lady, there’s so many other things going on right now. We don’t care. Pharrell & Chad Hugo in Legal Battle Over The Neptunes Name
Speaking of lawsuits, Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo have entered a legal battle against each other over trademarking The Neptunes brand.
They said Hugo and his team have made a filing with the trademark trial and appeal board, accusing his longtime friend of committing fraud by attempting to register trademarks for The Neptunes name, without his name on. Hugo’s lawyer said, “Throughout their over 30 year history, they agreed to, and in fact, have divided all assets. By ignoring and excluding Hugo from the any and all applications filed by applicant for the mark ‘The Neptunes,’ the applicant has committed fraud in securing the trademarks and acted in bad faith.”
A rep for Pharrell said, “Pharrell is surprised by this. We have reached out on multiple occasions to share in the ownership and administration of the trademark and will continue to make that offer. The goal here was to make sure a third party doesn’t get a hold of the trademark and to guarantee Chad and Pharrell share in ownership and administration.”
That sucks to see, but it’s not surprising. When I used to run concerts, there were shows that you’d only see certain performers together on stage. They didn’t stand next to each other. They had to be on the other side of the theater from each other. But you would never know seeing them onstage that they were just not cool with each other. There’s several groups like that. Money really does divide friendships.
