Future of Lakeside Mall Revealed
Thursday on Shannon’s Scoop we talked about the future of Lakeside Mall.
A closing date has been announced for Lakeside Mall in Sterling Heights. That’s happening this summer, on July 1st.
The plans to redesign the space have been in the works for a couple of years now. The mall’s going to get demolished to make room for a mixed-use city center that will include a spacious central park, restaurants, outdoor seating. They say it’ll serve as a focal point for community gatherings, music, art, and events. Anchoring the park is a two-story community center that will provide recreational amenities like a pool, fitness facilities, and lending libraries. And of course, there’s going to be residences, dining, retail shops and more.
The video rendering of what it will look like is sick. It looks so nice. I hope more communities actually do this because like, Macy’s and JC Penney’s have committed to do standalone stores down there, but it always drives a lot of local business shopping and stuff like that.
I think consumers are more inclined to shop when you have a walkable area where you can pop in to local businesses and stuff. I like to see that versus, you know, a mega-mall and chain stores.
