The numbers, of course, are big. Goff was widely expected to become one of the highest-paid quarterbacks with his contract extension, and that came true. According to ESPN and NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero, he’ll be with the Detroit Lions for four more years and rake in a lot of dough. “Another done deal in Detroit: Lions are signing QB Jared Goff to a four-year, $212 million contract extension that includes $170 million guaranteed, sources tell ESPN,” Another done deal in Detroit: Lions are signing QB Jared Goff to a four-year, $212 million contract extension that includes $170 million guaranteed, sources tell ESPN.

With this deal, Goff will have a $53 million average annual salary. That’s a huge Jared Goff contract. That makes him the second highest-paid quarterback in the NFL, only behind the Cincinnati Bengals’ Joe Burrow, who makes a $55 million average annual salary. So, the Jared Goff contract extension makes him almost the highest-paid quarterback in the league.
Ahead of the NFL Draft, I spoke with Goff at a charity event he was doing with Jared Jewelry. In an exclusive interview, he spoke with me about the love that he and his fiancée Christen Harper have for the city. “When I was traded, she came out with me and moved out here and changed a lot of her life,” Goff said. “She was only my girlfriend at the time. Now, she’s my fiancée. She made that jump. It’s something I’ll never forget. I’m very thankful to her for that. We’ve really embraced it here. The people are what makes Michigan special, and we’re happy to be a part of it.” Goff also spoke about how different Lions fans are from Los Angels Rams fans. “How much time you got?” he said, half-joking. “It’s been fun to play in front of them. They care so much. They’re so passionate. They love their football. They love all their sports but certainly football is big for fans here, and it’s been really fun to play in front of these fans.” We’re glad to have you in Detroit for the foreseeable future, Goff. He was such a gracious guy to interview, and I’m personally happy and relieved to see him strike a deal to stay in town. The Lions aren’t finished yet.
