Snoop Dogg Thanks ‘Nephews’ Drake And Kendrick For Their Rap Beef
Snoop Dogg thanks his “nephews” Drake and Kendrick Lamar for their rap beef. The “Let’s Get Blown” rapper, 52, told Entertainment Tonight in an interview published on Tuesday (May 28) that the ongoing beef between the two is doing good things for hip-hop.
Snoop Dogg Thanks His ‘Nephews’
“The only thing I want to say about that whole scenario is that I want to give both of them a shoutout for raising the bar as far as lyrics, as far as song-making and writing because the writing has been upped since the confrontation or whatever you call it, whatever they went through,” Snoop, said in the interview.
Calling the Compton and Toronto rappers his “nephews,” Snoop made it clear he isn’t taking any sides. Wisely taking the diplomatic approach, the “Gin and Juice” rapper offered his support of both Drake and Kendrick and said that it’s “not my business.”
Offering both award-winning rappers more praise, Snoop adds, “They made you rap again,” he said. “You can’t mumble your way and gimmick your way to a song no more, buddy. So, thank y’all.”
The last “beef” Snoop was a part of was when he collaborated with Katy Perry in 2010’s “California Gurls” after Jay-Z and Alicia Keys put out “Empire State of Mind” the year prior. Since that was more about love for the West Coast over any actual beef, Snoop has been off the radar since his involvement between the mid-’90s Tupac and Notorious B.I.G.’s beef, which ended fatally for both rappers. Snoop collaborated with Pac on the “New York, New York” song in response to Biggie’s “L.A., L.A..”

Meanwhile, Snoop’s latest project is voicing a character named Snoop Cat in the recently-released The Garfield Movie. He joins a star-studded cast of voice actors, including Chris Pratt as the titular character, Nicholas Hoult as Garfield’s human friend Jon Arbuckle, Ving Rhames as Otto, Hannah Waddingham as Jinx, Samuel L. Jackson as Vic, Brett Goldstein as Roland, Cecily Strong as Marge, Bowen Yang as Nolan, Janelle James as Olivia, and Gregg Berger as Odie.
Of the animated family-friendly film, Snoop is happy he can share this with his grandchildren. He told ET, “A lot of times, I make stuff that is not appropriate for kids, and they can’t really see it. Everybody knows who I am. I’ve been doing this for a long time, but it’s beautiful that I can be a part of things that I can show my grandkids all over the world, that [there] is not just one side of Snoop Dogg.”
