Detroit Horse Power: Empowering Youth Through Equestrian Activities
As mentioned in today’s Shannon’s Scoop, an amazing organization is brining horses to the city.
Yesterday brought some fantastic news about a remarkable organization in Detroit called Detroit Horse Power. Despite what it sounds like, this isn’t about cars—it’s about horses. Detroit Horse Power is dedicated to helping kids aged 11 to 18 develop social skills through interactions with horses. Until now, they’ve had to travel to partner facilities outside the city for these activities. But that’s about to change.
Location of the Future Detroit Horse Power Equestrian Camp
The city of Detroit has granted Detroit Horse Power the right to purchase 14 acres of land at the site of the former Paul Robeson School, located in the Finkel and Linwood area. This site, which has been unused since the school was demolished over a decade ago due to a fire, will be transformed into an urban equestrian center. The center will host after-school programs, summer camps, and field trips, all aimed at serving Detroit’s youth.
What The New Detroit Horse Power Facility Will Feature
The new facility will feature stables for 17 horses, an indoor riding arena, outdoor riding spaces, classrooms, community spaces, and much more. Groundbreaking is set to begin this fall. This initiative is poised to introduce a whole new group of kids to the joys of horseback riding and the numerous benefits that come with it. It’s an exciting development for the city and its young residents. They say it will be the largest urban equestrian facility in the country.
