Detroit Solar Fields Set To Transform The City
As mentioned in today’s Shannon’s Scoop, an ambitious project is set to revolutionize Detroit.
Where the Detroit Solar Fields Will Be Located
Detroit is embarking on a groundbreaking initiative to transform 250 acres of vacant and blighted land into solar fields. The project is called ‘Solar Neighborhoods’. Detroit solar fields will targets three neighborhoods: Gratiot and Finley, Van Dyke-Lynch, and Star Fair communities. The ultimate goal is to have these solar farms provide power to a multitude of city buildings in the future. 127 to be exact.
What Citizens Will Get in the Detroit Solar Fields Neighborhoods
In addition to generating renewable energy, the Detroit solar fields project will provide significant benefits to eligible homeowners in these neighborhoods. Homeowners can receive up to $25,000 in funding for energy-efficient upgrades, including roofing, new furnaces, new appliances, upgrade their insulation, windows & more. The city is also purchasing large properties previously acquired by private citizens at lower rates, offering them compensation for their land. They’ve also offered buy-outs from other citizens to demolish their homes for these projects.
The rollout will occur in phases, with the first phase converting 100 acres. They will begin prepping the are in the fall. This initiative represents a significant step towards sustainability and energy efficiency in Detroit.
How do you feel about this for the residents of the city? I think this is great for the city. It will help to reduce illegal dumping & blight. It could also increase the home values in that area with the clean-up efforts & home improvement upgrades. For more information on these projects click here.
