Paul George Reportedly Agrees To Max Contract With The Philadelphia 76ers
Paul George reportedly agreed to a max contract with the Philadelphia 76ers! NBA Free Agency has officially begun!
NBA Free Agency started last night, and it didn’t take long to get some massive news! Paul George will be taking his talents from his hometown of Los Angeles, where he played for the Los Angeles Clippers, to play alongside Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers.
Paul George Reportedly Heading To The Philadelphia 76ers
According to Adrian Wojnarowski, Paul George has agreed on a 4-year, $212 million maximum contract with the Philadelphia 76ers. George will now be joining former NBA MVP Joel Embiid and All-Star Tyrese Maxey in hopes of bringing an NBA title to Philadelphia for the first time since 1983.
That lineup could be strong enough to make them the favorites to come out of the Eastern Conference. However, the defending NBA Champions might have something to say about that. We can’t forget that the East still runs through Boston! Boston is expected to keep their core group together which will present a challenge to the new-look 76ers.
Paul George recently declined a player option with the Clippers that would have netted him $48.8 million for the upcoming 2024-2025 NBA season. George joined the Clippers in 2019 after spending a couple of years with the Oklahoma City Thunder and spent the first 7 years of his career with the Indiana Pacers where he made a name for himself.
How Will Paul George Help The Philadelphia 76ers?
Many fans saw the move coming after the Clippers released a statement on Sunday night saying, “Paul has informed us that he is signing his next contract with another team. We negotiated for months with Paul and his representative on a contract that would make sense for both sides, and we were left far apart. The gap was significant. We understand and respect Paul’s decision to look elsewhere for his next contract.”
As of this morning, the Philadelphia 76ers have the third best odds in Vegas of winning the championship in 2025 at +850, according to FanDuel. Only the defending champion Boston Celtics (+300) and Denver Nuggets (+750) have better odds at winning the title. Meanwhile, the Detroit Pistons sit at the bottom of NBA Championship Odds at +100000, per FanDuel.
It’s not the only big move so far in Free Agency. Point Guard Chris Paul is reportedly heading to the San Antonio Spurs to join forces with young up-and-comer Victor Webanyama, per Bleacher Report. What do you think? Will this be enough to finally get the 76ers into the Eastern Conference Finals or to win a title? Let us know in the comments!
