Is The Kendrick Lamar And Drake Beef Over After The 2024 BET Awards?
Did the 2024 BET Awards put an end to the Kendrick Lamar and Drake beef? One of the two left the night with some significant hardware.
The 2024 BET Awards kicked off with a joke at Kendrick’s expense as they parodied “Not Like Us.” However, it was Kendrick who got the last laugh as he ended up winning Male Artist Of The Year. So, does that officially put an end to the Kendrick Lamar and Drake beef?
Is The Kendrick Lamar And Drake Beef Over?
Regardless of whose side you were on during the beef, K. Dot winning Male Artist Of The Year has to bring some major bragging rights with it. It feels like Kendrick Lamar and Drake were two of the most discussed rappers of the year. Now, you could argue that Kendrick won the beef because he got the title and the trophy to go along with it.
Kendrick has now won Male Artist Of The Year at the BET Awards three years in a row. Again, that’s a major accomplishment! Drake was also nominated in 2024, 2023, and 2022 but came up short losing to Kendrick each time. I’m sure Drake isn’t losing any sleep over it. He has enough hardware on his mantle as it is, in addition to being one of the most popular artists of his generation. You have to imagine he didn’t want to see Kendrick leave the stage with the award, though.
Even Vice President Kamala Harris got in on the fun with a pre-taped skit before the Award Show. She even made a “Not Like Us” reference during her appearance. Kendrick left his mark all over the awards this year and it’s hard to say he lost the beef at this point.
Who Won The Kendrick Lamar And Drake Beef?
Sure, the beef isn’t exactly new. There’s been a feud between the two rappers dating back to the early 2010s. However, things escalated in March of 2024 after the release of several diss tracks. It seems to have ignited with “Like That” by Future, Metro Boomin, and Kendrick Lamar. Drake then fired back releasing diss tracks of his own with “Push Ups” and “Taylor Made Freestyle.” Then, the ball was back in Lamar’s court and he dropped “Euphoria” and “6:16 in LA” which caused Drake to drop “Family Matters” accusing Kendrick of being a domestic abuser and even alleging one of his children was fathered by Dave Free. That’s when things really started heating up. Kendrick then dropped “Meet the Grahams” in which he accuses Drake of sex trafficking, being a predator, and fathering a secret child. The following day, Lamar dropped “Not Like Us” in which he seemingly doubled down on Drake being a predator. After that, Drake responded with “The Heart Part 6.”
Safe to say it was an exciting time in the rap world. People were at the edge of their seats waiting for the next diss track. We were on social media deciphering the lyrics and finding Easter Eggs and hidden meanings to the lyrics. Everyone had their own opinion on who won and their favorite diss track. However, majority seemed to declare Kendrick Lamar the winner. Major publications including Pitchfork, The Ringer, and Rolling Stone also seemed to take Kendrick’s side and named him the winner of the beef.
What do you think? Does Kendrick Lamar winning Male Artist Of The Year at the 2024 BET Awards cement his victory over Drake? Or are we just getting started and it’s too early to declare any winner? Sound off, does winning Male Artist Of The Year at the BET Award mean the Kendrick Lamar and Drake beef is officially over?
