As mentioned in today's Shannon's Scoop, Michigan's New Tuition-Free Community College Program starts this fall!

For families with recent high school graduates or teens preparing to graduate, there's important news that you might not have heard yet. Beginning this fall, the Michigan schooling budget will now include a tuition-free community college guarantee. This significant change offers eligible students the opportunity to pursue a degree or skills certificate from any in-district community or tribal college without worrying about tuition and fees.

Michigan's new tuition free community college program covers tuition at institutions like Monroe Community College, Henry Ford College, Macomb Community College, Oakland Community College, Washtenaw Community College, and many more. In fact, around 31 schools are participating. Additionally, eligible students who receive Pell Grants can qualify for a $1,000 Michigan Achievement Bonus Award, which can be used for other educational costs, such as books.

Eligibility Requirements For Michigan's New Tuition-Free Community College Program

  • Michigan high school graduates from 2023 onwards.
  • Must complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).
  • Michigan residency since July 1st of the previous year when applying.
  • U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or approved refugee status.
  • Must enroll full-time in college within 15 months of graduation.

Michigan's new tuition-free Community College Program allows eligible students to renew their scholarships for up to three years at a community or tribal college. It's a fantastic opportunity for recent graduates to get a head start on their education without the financial burden that often comes with it. If you know someone who qualifies, make sure they take advantage of this incredible offer.
