Metro Detroit Storms Cause Widespread Power Outages and Flooding
As mentioned in today’s Shannon’s Scoop, Metro Detroit storms wreaked havoc
Last night’s storms hit hard, leaving many without power, including my co-host, Mean Jean. The storm rolled in quickly and left a lasting impact.
Mean Jean shared his experience of losing power around 6 PM. “I didn’t even realize it was storming outside,” he said. “It was just super windy, but it hadn’t started raining yet. I was tired, so I thought I’d take a nap until 3 AM and get an early start. But nope! I woke up at 9 PM, my cell phone was dead, and there was still no power.”
Mean Jean’s experience is reflective of what many others in the area are facing. The power outages are widespread, with over 200,000 people still in the dark. This is a difficult situation, especially for families trying to get their kids ready for school. The loss of power isn’t just an inconvenience; it’s a financial burden. As Mean Jean put it, “Groceries aren’t cheap, so I’m just leaving the refrigerator and freezer closed, hoping for the best.”
Flooding Adds to the Chaos
In addition to the power outages, many areas are dealing with flooding. Roads like Telegraph and Southfield have been partially closed due to water accumulation, particularly under overpasses like those at Telegraph and Ecorse Road. The drainage systems simply couldn’t handle the storm’s intensity.
If you’re heading to work today, please be safe. Give yourself extra time and be prepared to take alternate routes.”
