A Michigan tavern that's really a mainstay has reopened after being closed. It's always a happy story when a beloved local restaurant opens after being closed for a while. Many times, those restaurants never reopen, so when one does, it's super special. Michigan has so many great local spots, but that doesn't make it hurt any less when we lose one, so I'm glad to see this restaurant and tavern making a comeback.

Michigan Tavern Reopens and Starts Serving Food Again

Airport Tavern and Steakhouse, located in Lansing, Michigan, near the airport, has been a local favorite for years. The restaurant and tavern closed in January and reopened its bar service in April. Now, they're back to serving food, as of September. That's great news, because I know a lot of people who loved getting dinner at the Airport Tavern and Steakhouse.

The restaurant's owners and workers took to Facebook to announce the news on Sunday on Sept. 15.

"We are so excited to announce that The Airport Tavern is officially OPEN FOR FOOD SERVICE!" the post on the spot's Facebook page said. "Our hours are Tuesday — Saturday 4-9 pm. Thank you to our community for your continued support! Stay tuned for daily specials and menu updates! Tell your friends and help us spread the word — the Tavern is back! We can't wait to see you!!!" They also noted that dine in service was opening first and take out will be available starting Oct. 1, so it's available now.

The Facebook post came with lots of happy comments, plus nearly 500 "likes" and 372 "shares." Someone even said their mom had been "praying" for the spot to open, so you know it was serious business. One of their most popular theme nights was Prime Rib Fridays, which offer the establishment's famed prime rib. Thankfully, it's back, too. So, it's a lot of happy faces, all around.

The tavern's hours of operation are 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. They're located at 5000 North Grand River Avenue in Lansing. It's worth pointing out that the property is still listed for sale. It's currently priced at $450,000. Hopefully that doesn't mean the place will close again soon. Cross your fingers. Reach out to me with your favorite local restaurants and suggestions for old spots that you would love to see reopen. I would love to see the Dispatch in Lansing reopen, where I worked in college.
