It’s World Vegan Month. Great Metro Detroit Vegan Restaurants

Every November, people around the world celebrate World Vegan Month. But what exactly is veganism? And why should we care about it? Let's take a closer look. Plus, I've shared some great Metro Detroit vegan restaurants for you to check out below.

What is veganism?
Veganism is a way of living which seeks to exclude, as far as is possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose. - The Vegan Society
In other words, vegans try to avoid using or consuming any products that come from animals. This includes things like meat, dairy, eggs, honey, leather, wool, silk, and cosmetics that have been tested on animals. Some vegans also avoid using products that contain animal-derived ingredients, such as sugar that has been whitened with bone char or certain types of alcohol that are filtered with fish bladders.

Why go vegan?
There are many reasons why someone might choose to go vegan. For some people, it's a ethical decision based on the belief that all animals deserve to be treated with respect and compassion. For others, it's a health decision. Still others do it for environmental reasons. Or sometimes it's a combination of all three! Whatever the reason, more and more people are choosing to ditch animal products in favor of vegan alternatives.

What about World Vegan Month?
World Vegan Month is an annual event that celebrates veganism and raises awareness of the many benefits of a vegan lifestyle. It was founded by Louise Wallis in 1994 and is now celebrated in over 50 countries around the world. So whether you're already vegan or just curious about what it's all about, take some time this November to learn more about veganism and how you can make compassionate choices for animals, your health, and the planet!
