This week, Ann Arbor's police force launched a Public Transparency Dashboard online. The system shows crime fell 8% last year while giving people quick access to safety stats.

The web tool updates weekly with incident reports dating to 2021. Users can check crime stats by area - from single wards to the whole city - and track patterns across different times and dates.

"Our goal is to provide the community with clear, accessible information about public safety in Ann Arbor," said Chief Andre Anderson, according to Country Herald. "Transparency is essential to building trust, and this dashboard is another way for community members to see the data that guides our work every day."

City stats point to a 4% reduction in violent incidents. This new tracking system shows the police want to share more info with the public about what's happening in their streets.

More public outreach is coming soon. Officers will host "Chief's Community Chats" where locals can speak directly with police leaders about their concerns. They'll also run public CompStat sessions to discuss safety trends.

The chief stressed how this tool proves they want to keep talking with residents. When people can see what's happening in their area, Anderson said, it helps create stronger bonds between police and the public.

This data tool marks a big shift in how police share information. Now anyone can track crime trends and police work almost in real time, making it easier to stay informed about neighborhood safety.
