Big Sean Gives Away $25K in Gas at Detroit Block Party

Big Sean handed out $25,000 worth of free gas to more than 500 cars at a BP station on Detroit's east side Friday. The rapper joined forces with Canadian influencer Zachery Dereniowski and Charlie's Mart to transform the spot into a block party. Hot meals appeared. Turkeys got distributed. Some attendees even drove off in new cars.

The BP station sits on East Jefferson near Chene. Big Sean mentioned he used to visit this area every Friday to rap at a radio station. "This is my roots right here," Big Sean said, per ClickOnDetroit. "If you know, you know."

The Detroit native has made a career of returning to his hometown. He spent Friday afternoon taking selfies, signing autographs, and offering words of encouragement to residents who showed up.

Zachery Dereniowski, known as MD Motivator, joined the effort. The philanthropist has built a following through acts of kindness that often go viral on social media. "Be kind – love always – we need more love in this world. I love Detroit," Dereniowski said.

Residents lined up at the pumps to get free gas. One woman thanked the team with air kisses across the station. Another woman told Big Sean she loved what he was doing for the community.

The rapper made his feelings about the city clear throughout the day. "God bless Detroit, the greatest city to ever be, and it ever will be. I promise that," Big Sean said.

The crowd responded with chants of "Detroit Baby!" as the event continued. The giveaway provided relief to hundreds of drivers facing rising costs at the pump.
