Michigan will raise its minimum wage to $13.73 per hour on Jan. 1, 2026. This is part of a plan that aims to hit $15 per hour by 2027 under the state's Improved Workforce Opportunity Wage Act. The wage last climbed to $12.48 per hour in February.

Another boost comes on Jan. 1, 2027 when workers will start making $15.00 per hour at minimum.

The federal minimum wage stands at $7.25 per hour. It hasn't budged since 2009. Dozens of states have their own wage laws, and many have boosts scheduled for later in 2025 or in 2026.

Many state and local governments keep raising the minimum through new laws or scheduled boosts tied to inflation. Housing, utilities, and food prices shot up in the years after the pandemic.

One reason for raising the minimum wage is to make sure that people working full-time jobs can afford necessities like food and housing.

The boosts affect workers across Michigan who have been getting minimum wage pay. They'll see bigger paychecks with each scheduled bump.

The path to $15 per hour represents a series of steps over two years. The jump from $12.48 to $13.73 marks the first of two remaining boosts.
