Four hotels will introduce over 1,600 rooms to downtown Detroit in coming years, pushing the city's total past 7,000.

The JW Marriott should arrive first. This five-star riverfront development will rise where Joe Louis Arena once stood. Twenty-five stories will house 600 rooms, conference areas, and eateries. Without this property, Detroit couldn't have secured the 2027 NCAA Men's Final Four, which tips off in April that year.

The EDITION Hotel will occupy space inside Hudson's Detroit Tower on Woodward Ave., with doors opening in 2027. Guests will find 227 rooms alongside eateries, a rooftop bar, an outdoor terrace, a spa, a fitness center, and event areas.

NoMad Detroit at Michigan Central should welcome visitors in 2027. The historic train station will house 180 guest rooms, a wellness center, and dining options.

Last summer, Michigan Central revealed NoMad plans. Workers have spent years restoring the train station.

Visit Detroit officials unveiled a second venue Wednesday that will connect to Huntington Place, adding 600 rooms downtown.

Groups across the city have pursued more hotel capacity for years. These four developments now bring those ambitions to life.

The extra capacity creates opportunities for larger gatherings. The 2027 NCAA Men's Final Four stands as one major event that demanded this expansion.
