Best Christmas Present You Ever Got

What’s the best Christmas present you ever got? Some gifts are so good they create memories for a lifetime. I have gotten quite a few gifts over the years that were exceptional. My wife’s aunt was always amazing at getting unique gifts. One year she got me a gigantic Superman watch. While Superman is not my favorite hero, I love kitsch and crazy things. This watch is HUGE! My wife also can do really well at gifts also. She gave me a slew of disturbing Christmas gifts like creepy antique elves, a doll named Hugo that you can change his identity, an animatronic gorilla, an old Ronald McDonald doll who whistles (and whose breath smells like death), and numerous other gifts that have been perfect for my weird joys in life.

If it feels good it can’t be that bad

It is all a matter of perspective and timing. People hate getting socks, but I actually love getting thick socks as I seem to always have holes in all my clothes before I ever buy anything for myself. So getting some fresh socks is always a win for me.

People say gift cards are terrible, but honestly have you ever not used a gift card? My wife and I love getting some Amazon cards and being able to shop for each other without having to worry if we going to break the bank. Sometimes the right gift comes at just the right time.

I pride myself on getting just the right gift. My wife says her favorite gift from me was getting backstage tickets for Impractical Jokers (at the time they were not as huge as they are now). And it was a memorable event as I made a custom T-shirt for her that said “This Byatch gots a hat on” which Q called out and said “I wouldn’t want to be behind her” which he then regret when he saw later what her shirt said and met us backstage. A truly memorable gift and day.

These are the types of stories and thoughts I found on several Reddit Posts:

Some of these Reddit Lists can be found here.

  • Life

“At age 66, simply being alive for another year. Each year, I appreciate it more”

A simple yet great viewpoint. As I get older I appreciate that I can be with my family for another year.

  • Star Wars

“My Star Wars Christmas. Star Wars had come out the year before and was all the rage. Every present I received was Star Wars related with the Millennium Falcon being the cherry on top. Best Christmas ever!!

For some odd reason, I did not get many Star War Xmas presents when I was a kid and I was an 80’s toddler. So I was always envious of others who did…and there’s a devious story to that for another day.

  • A MFing GI Joe!

A motherf****** GI joe command center in like….1987. It was huge! And Epic and I loved it. I just saw the same one on Ebay for like $700!”

That would have been the same thought if I got the Command Center, Aircraft Carrier, or The Terror Drome. GI Joe people know what I mean.  COBBBBBRRRAAA!!

  • Nintendo

    My Super Nintendo”

I know that was 3 words, but Nintendo meant so much to my age and so many after. Do we even really think about the amount of joy Nintendo has given us? When K-mart was a thing and they had layaway, my mom could not just buy Christmas gifts so she put them on layaway. It was something special to this day getting that original Nintendo and I still have it with the original gold Zelda. So I get the feels whenever someone mentions getting a Nintendo from any era.

  • It's about the experience

“A few years ago I spent Christmas at my mom’s house, and she bought me tickets to see Matilda the Musical at the Kennedy Center. Matilda was my favorite book and movie as a kid.

We got all dressed up, had some drinks before the show, and it was an amazing performance. Some guy who had been on Law & Order a few times was playing Miss Trunchbull and he was hilarious! The little girl who played Matilda was absolutely fantastic.”

This is all about the whole experience that really makes this gift stand out.

  • Nothing is corny

My boyfriend got me a jar of 100 reasons he loves me. Yeah it’s cliche and overused but all the reasons were so personal and I got it as a pre-Christmas gift because I was really sad and it totally cheered me up, it was so sweet and whenever I’m feeling down I can just open the jar and have a smile on my face instantly I love it”

Nothing is corny if it means something to you. I make cookies every year because people enjoy them and I enjoy making other people happy. It makes me happy. And that can’t be bad right?

  • X-Box be praised!

The coolest is probably the oculus rift, but the Gift that has probably impacted me the most was when I was 11, I got an Xbox 360 w/Kinect. Over the years I made so many good friends and played so many great games.”

Yeah, I love games, I have no shame in that. And one of the best times of my life was when I could play Halo 2 and Gears of War with all my friends. I literally went to my X-box friend’s wedding. We were so used to calling each other by our gamer tags we didn’t even call each other by name at first. Hey Velkro Boy (That’s mine by the way)!

  • Talk about OLD SCHOOL!

“My Commodore 64. I had thousands of hours of fun playing games but I also learnt to program in Basic and machine code. I’m not a coder but I work in data and that fundamental, logical understanding of process has made me successful, in my view. I still have a love of games and I play with my sons.”

My gaming days go way back all the way to Commodore 64. My dad built Commodores so I had a much closer relationship with them than most. But one of the only things that created much of a relationship between my father and me was the Commodore. He later upgraded, but not before we had our fill of hundreds of games.

  • It's all about how it makes you feel

I know it may be small to a lot of you but to me it’s not. I opened a gift early (it’s a tradition) and I got a razer mouse so that was awesome but my laptop is still doodoo (15-20 fps) but I feel like a pro with it”

Nothing is small or trivial if it makes you feel good.

  • Memories are the best gifts

My tattoo of my old cat’s paw prints after he passed away. Had him since I was 7. Still miss him everyday.”

Stories and memories are the best gifts. Anything that brings those out are some of the best gifts. OH! My daughter got me a picture frame with lots of panels of all of the family. One of the best gifts.
