NEW YORK, NY - JUNE 02: Lil Yachty during the 2017 Governors Ball Music Festival - Day 1 at Randall's Island on June 2, 2017 in New York City.

Lil Yachty stepped into the spotlight after the release of his 2015 project Summer Songs. The project was his debut EP, which propelled him into the mainstream with songs “Minnesota” featuring Quavo, Skippa Da Flippa and Young Thug as well as “One Night.”

2016 was a pivotal moment in Lil Yachty’s career. The rapper signed a joint record deal with Quality Control Music, Capitol Records, and Motown Records. In addition to starting his career with the support of a label, the rapper also released his debut mixtape Lil Boat in March. The following month, he collaborated with DRAM for the song “Broccoli.” The song peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was nominated for Best Rap/Sung Performance at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards. That year he also collaborated with Chance The Rapper’s Coloring Book on the track “Mixtape.”

As for fashion, in 2016 he modeled for Kanye West’s Yeezy Season 3 fashion line at Madison Square Garden. He would later collab with Ye musically as he was featured on Donda on the track “Ok Ok.”

Lil Yachty dropped Let’s Start Here, the rapper’s fifth studio album back in January.

While the Atlanta native is mostly known for his music, eccentric hair and fashion sense, the rapper has been making a new lane as a podcaster. He started his own podcast in June with his friend MitchGoneMad, titled It’s A Safe Place. He revealed that one of the reasons was to get his friend paid.

“I did it for my best friend. I did it because I wanted to make him rich,” the rapper said to Bobbi Althoff on her show The Really Good Podcast.

Althoff asked if they were successful in making Mitch rich. While he’s not rich yet, Yachty said that he is still working on that as they already secured a sponsor for their podcast.

Over the last few months, he’s also proven to be an entertaining guest and getting intesting answers from his celebrity friends.

Take a look at some of the most memorable moments from his podcast career thus far, both as a host and as a guest:

  • Lil Yachty Calls Out Bobbi Althoff

In an appearance on Bobbi Althoff’s The Really Good Podcast, Lil Yachty and Althoff discuss his career, personal life, and even get their conversation interrupted by Drake. One of the memorable moments from his guest spot on The Really Good Podcast was when Lil Yachty called Althoff for doing the most work in the conversation. “I’m carrying your conversation on your podcast,” the rapper said at the 4:40 minute mark.

  • Lil Yachty on "A Moody Conversation" with Drake | Drake possibly retiring

During his trial run as a podcaster, Lil Yachty got some information out of Drake that he hasn’t revealed before. The two are close as Lil Yachty revealed in his interview with Bobbi Althoff. Lil Yachty interviewed Drake on A Moody Conversation where the Toronto rapper hinted at retiring from music.

“I think I’m at the point now where I just wanna like — I feel like I’m kinda introducing the concept in my mind of a graceful exit,” Drake said at the 6:06 minute mark.

  • Spending $100,000 on a date

On Yachty’s A Safe Place he revealed that he spent six figures on a date.

“The overall of that trip wasn’t trickin’, [it] wasn’t for her, but it was to go big and I kinda went a little insane,” Lil Yachty said. “That thing specifically is I spent $100,000 to go to Disney World. I regret it because we weren’t dating and it just didn’t go nowhere.”

On this episode alongside his co-host MitchGoneMad, he was joined by video game influencer Kai Cenat.

  • Lil Yachty Says "F*** Sean Paul"

Lil Yachty did not conceal how he feels about reggae and dancehall singer, Sean Paul. On the debut episode of The Safe Place, Yachty brought up the conversation of “falling off.” He said artists like Sean Paul and Shaggy never “fell off” but just stopped making music. However, while he was defending Sean Paul he made it clear that he does not support him. “F— Sean Paul,” Yachty said.

    MitchGoneMad asked, “Why?”

Yachty explained that it was because, in an old interview, he came for him and used him as an example for rappers with no talent.

This moment starts at the 28-minute mark.

  • Backlash for Sexxy Red Reaction

Lil Yachty and his co-host MitchGoneMad were under fire for how they reacted to rapper Sexxy Red. They had asked her what was the craziest thing that ever happened to her and she revealed that she was raped. At first, the men seemed dismissive of the answer and wanted to change the subject which is why they received backlash from fans. After processing what the “Pound Town” rapper said, they were more empathetic to the situation. “We just wanted to say we are sorry that happened to you,” Mitch said, with Yachty adding, “That is unfortunate.”

This moment happened at the 30:55 minute mark.
