Everyone has their favorite Christmas song. Halloween songs are also growing in popularity. Hey, there are even Thanksgiving songs. What’s not as popular? Daylight Savings Time songs.

However, just because they’re rare doesn’t mean they don’t exist. They do. There just aren’t nearly as many songs about Daylight Savings Time as there are about the major holidays (and some of the smaller holidays as well).

Daylight Savings Time Songs

That didn’t stop me from putting together a list of the five greatest songs about Daylight Savings Time. It wasn’t an easy task, I will admit. Thankfully, I had an additional hour of the day this morning to tackle this daunting task.

Putting together a list of my favorite Christmas songs would be a breeze. There are, truly, countless options to choose from. I even put together a list recently of my favorite Halloween-themed songs. No shortage of those, either. It was no problem at all.

However, artists and bands don’t seem to focus on Daylight Savings Time. Which is wild to me because we all go through it. Twice a year even! I’ve always been told musicians like to write from their heart and write about what they know. I guess you can’t always do that. Otherwise, I would only write about value menus and Daylight Savings Time.

Perhaps, a reason songwriters don’t choose to focus on Daylight Savings Time is because they think it won’t be around much longer. That’s understandable. You don’t want to write a song that future generations won’t be able to understand. That’s why you don’t hear songs about 8-tracks or Beta players. The artists had the foresight to know these are not timeless commodities and will one day be out of our daily lives. Well played, songwriters.

Due to the Sunshine Protection Act, we have to follow the rules of Daylight Savings Time. However, lawmakers have been discussing the possibility of getting rid of the tradition. According to SleepFoundation.org, dozens of states are considering legislation to eliminate clock changes. Despite the opposition of Daylight Savings Time by many people, it doesn’t seem like it’ll be going away any time soon. Certainly not this year.

Until then, we still have our songs about Daylight Savings Time. Here’s the best I could come up with.

Ranking The Best Songs

  • Iration - "Daylight Saving"

Ah-ha! You thought there weren’t any songs about Daylight Savings Time? Here’s one! Kind of. I mean, it’s in the title. It’s not exactly about turning our clocks forward and back, but the song captures the general theme. It talks about lost time, using time wisely, days growing longer…it’s the perfect song for Daylight Savings Time.

  • Pink Floyd - "Time"

Is it about Daylight Savings Time? No. However, one third of the phrase Daylight Savings Time is in the title. In a way, I think Pink Floyd was giving Daylight Savings Time a little nod of the cap with this one.

  • Imagine Dragons - "It's Time"

The “It’s Time” they’re talking about is clearly saying it’ s time to roll the clocks forward. They don’t come out and say it, but music is all about metaphors and syntax. Just trust me.

  • Alan Jackson - "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere"

Whether we’re rolling the clocks back or falling forward, it’s five o’clock somewhere. Then, it’ll still be five o’clock somewhere once we reset the clocks. Amazing how that works.

  • Seal - "Daylight Saving"

I’ll be honest I didn’t know this song existed three minutes ago. Accidentally just stumbled upon it. I thought Iration’s Daylight Saving was the only song with it in the title. Then, boom. This one pops up. No idea what it’s actually about, but it’s in the title. Is it any good? Let me know!
