The veteran R&B trio sat down for BuzzFeed’s “Cocoa Butter” video series and reviewed the music of current female R&B artists like Teyana Taylor, H.E.R., Jhene Aiko, Kehlani, Chloe x Halle, Queen Naija, and Syd.
The “Weak” singers had a lot to say about each of the artists, but they were most excited about Taylor, who’s been recently getting her feet wet as a music video director. Taylor’s most recently directed video was for Monica’s single “Commitment.”
“Woooooooo! Teyana Taylor is so so way overdue,” Leanna “LeLee” Lyons said. “She’s going to be around for a minute!”

SWV was also impressed with H.E.R., especially Taj and LeLee. “I’m partial because I just love H.E.R. So she could sing dookie on a stick, and I’ll still be like, ‘Oh she sounds nice,'” Tamara “Taj” Johnson-George said.
Cheryl “Coko” Clemons was fond of H.E.R., but she felt like she needs to make more upbeat music.
When it came to sister-duo Chloe x Halle, the R&B veterans all felt like they sounded a lot like their mentor, Beyonce. They also felt that they hadn’t heard any music from the sisters that “pop” yet.
“I just like to hear them sing live because nowadays these girls sound like a computer,” said Coko.
SWV is gearing up for their new upcoming reality show with Salt-n-Pepa BET. It’s called Ladies Night and it airs on Apr. 30.
