Did R. Kelly Marry Aaliyah To Avoid Criminal Charges?
R. Kelly’s name continues to appear in the news.
R. Kelly is being accused of illegally marrying an underage Aaliyah to prevent her from testifying against him in court. Well, the plot thickens.
According to court documents obtained by The Blast, new details are evolving about R. Kelly’s marriage to Aaliyah. Prosecutors recently added a charge of bribery to Kelly’s indictment over the Aaliyah marriage. Okay, we know he’s never seeing the light of day again. They accuse him of bribing a state official to obtain a fake ID for 15-year-old Aaliyah. Where’s this state official?! I want the tea. Of course, R .Kelly plead not guilty to the charge.
At the time, R. Kelly was 27 years old when he married Aaliyah, which would later be annulled by her parents. The marriage took place on August 31, 1994 in Rosemont, Illinois.
There are two “Jane Does” in the R. Kelly case and Kelly is currently fighting prosecutors, demanding they reveal the identity of them. The prosecutors are arguing that he is a danger and points to his past.
One of the prosecutor’s arguments includes the Aaliyah situation, where she is named Jane Doe #1. They claim the reason for the wedding was because Kelly feared he could be in trouble criminally for his relationship with the singer. Ya think?!
