Should McKamey Manor: The Haunted House that will Pay You to Finish be Shut Down?
By now you’ve probably heard about the haunted house that will pay you $20,000 to make it through.
Nobody has completed that task. Guests who wish to compete are promised the most terrifying and mentally exhausting 10+ hours of their lives. There is a video that shows you some of what people go through that show up.
There is now a petition calling the manor a “torture chamber under disguise” with over 40,000 signatures asking it be shut down.
Russ McKamey owns and operates multiple locations of the extreme haunted house that’s based in Summertown, Tennessee and Huntsville, Alabama. If you wish to enter, he requires you to fulfill a long list of requirements, including a 40-page waiver and the completion of a physical exam. The only thing it costs to get in is a bag of dog food since he has dogs on site.
You also must follow strict guidelines such as no cussing, drinking, smoking, running, eating, or touching the actors or props. However, they can touch you. According to McKamey, a safe word will stop the experience, but the petition says otherwise.
“Previously no safe word was allowed, he changed that but there’s been reports that the torture continues even when people repeat their safe word for several minutes,” the petition reads.
One man was allegedly “tortured” so badly, it wasn’t until the workers thought they had “killed” him that they finally decided to stop and let him leave.
Those who have experienced the manor call it “torture porn”.
McKamey has admitted to employing actors with “touchy pasts” such as those who have committed felonies for violent crimes.
A portion of the waiver was leaked that included visitors risk “death, stroke, traumatic brain injury,” and dozens of other injuries on the tour.
It doesn’t sound like ANYTHING I would be down with and wouldn’t probably even make it through the initial process. Based on the claims, I do believe that McKamey sounds like a sick individual and it should be shut down before someone is seriously harmed.
