Earth Day Activities For Michigan 2022

Earth Day is tomorrow, April 22nd and what better way to give back to Mother Earth than give back a little. Earth Day was started back in 1970. Senator Gaylord Nelson witnessed the devastating effects of a massive oil spill in Santa Barbara, CA. He called for the United States to act and take a stand for the environment.

Many colleges and universities started protests to promote this same idea. With so much interest generated to help give back to the earth and save the environment, laws and programs were created. Such as the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the Clean Air, Clean Water, and Endangered Species acts.

Here are some of the local activities (Listed by oaklandcountymoms.com) you and your family can participate in to give back. Every little bit can help make the world a little greener and healthier.

    Volunteers will help keep the park beautiful and safe for people and wildlife. Individuals, families and corporate groups are all welcome to participate. Volunteers will be assigned to different areas of the park at check-in. All necessary tools, gloves and bags will be provided. Volunteers will receive free entry into the park on clean-up day. Scout will earn a Fun Patch too! Snacks and water will be provided. This is a FREE event.

To maintain social distancing, families and small “bubble” groups will move through activities on their own and not with a large group. Dress for the weather as most activities will be outside.     Local musician Guy Lewis will perform upbeat songs about the earth. Earth Day treats and games will be available. Those interested also can help plant garden beds outside the church to raise fresh produce for the Rochester Area Neighborhood House food pantry. This is a FREE event.
