Missy Elliott is one of the most influential artists in hip-hop history. The rapper dropped her debut album Supa Dupa Fly in 1997, which spawned the singles “Sock It 2 Me” and “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly).” She reflected on the making of her first project with Timbaland via Twitter last year, “My first album was stress-free because I didn’t have any expectations. My label told me they would give me my own label if I did one album, so me and Timbaland completed this album in two weeks, not knowing this would be the beginning of more to come.” Besides her debut album, Missy has had several hits throughout her career, including “Get Your Freak On,” “Work It,” “Lose Control,” and several others.
Missy is also a legendary producer, having most notably produced R&B legend Aaliyah’s 1996 album One in a Million. The Virginia native’s pen game is also strong as she also co-wrote eight songs on the album. In her career, Missy has also produced tracks for Beyoncé, Ciara, Janet Jackson, and many more.
