Detroit Red Wings Henrik Zetterberg Is Retiring
Henrik Zetterberg‘s body has finally forced him to retire.
Detroit Red Wings fans are in a miniature mourning as the news broke today that Captain Henrik Zetterberg will be retiring due to injury.
The Detroit Free Press reports that a “degenerative back issue has forced the team captain to step down for good.”
“It is emotional,” Zetterberg said Friday, according to FREEP. “It’s been 15 years here and even though I knew that I was on my last couple years, I wish that I could play a little bit longer.”
With playing 1,082 games, having an MVP status and a Stanley Cup under his belt, it’s sad to see the Captain hang up his skates, but even after a surgery, he’s been sitting out for practice, and when he would get on the ice, the injury would flare up again.
We hope that Zetterberg will somehow still be involved with the team, whether that be involved in strategy teams, management on some level, or consulting, but it has not been shared at this time whether Henrik will stick around.
