With the Royal Rumble right around the corner, wrestling fans are starting to speculate what is going to happen next April in Philadelphia, and here are 8 matches we need at WrestleMania 40.

Now, a lot of these matches have already been hinted already so we’re not breaking news, but the matches still have to be put on paper. I think the most obvious match is Cody Rhodes finishing his story and finally winning the WWE Universal Championship from Roman Reigns. At Survivor Series, CM Punk returned to the company and in some people’s eyes has put a wrench in that.

As a matter of fact, on Friday night Punk threw his name in for the Rumble, which might be one of the best in the company’s history. Most of the matches that I’ll list here are for titles, although a couple of them will just be regular grudge matches. Here is the list of the matches that I am proposing, which I will go into more detail on below.

  • Roman Reigns (c) vs. Cody Rhodes - WWE Universal Title Match

Ever since Cody Rhodes came back to WWE all he’s been talking about is finishing his story, most people thought that would happen at WrestleMania 39 in Hollywood, but WWE is playing the long game. They’ve luckily kept Cody red hot with the fans, and I think he’ll become the 1oth person in WWE history to win two Royal Rumble’s. Here is the list: Hulk Hogan, Shawn Michaels, Stone Cold, Triple H, Brock Lesnar, Batista, John Cena, Edge, Randy Orton.

I expect Cody to join this list next month.

  • Seth Rollins (c) vs. CM Punk - WWE World Heavyweight Title Match

Most everyone was happy that CM Punk came back… except Seth Rollins. They’re very clearly heading in this direction with his response to Punk’s return, it’ll be interesting to see how they get there.

  • Rhea Ripley (c) vs. Becky Lynch - WWE Women's World Title Match

This is one of the biggest matches WWE can do in their women’s division so it makes sense to do it on the biggest stage. I expect the main event of Night 2 of WrestleMania 41 to be headlined by Rhea Ripley vs. Bianca Belair, where Belair’s WrestleMania win streak ends.

  • GUNTHER (c) vs. Sami Zayn - WWE Intercontinental Title Match

This one is simple, GUNTHER is the final boss and Sami Zayn is the ultimate underdog, this one writes itself!

  • Logan Paul (c) vs. LA Knight - WWE United States Title Match

Somehow LA Knight got left off of WrestleMania 39, which was in LA. I think the company will give him a big moment next year to make up for it!

  • Damage CTRL (c) vs. Sasha Banks & Bailey - WWE Women's Tag Title Match

This is the biggest swing on my list since Sasha Banks isn’t with the company and the Tag Titles was the reason she quit in 2021. But I can see her coming back now that Vince McMahon isn’t in control, and helping Bailey who’s clearly getting kicked out of Damage CTRL.

  • Jey Uso vs. Jimmy Uso

Vince McMahon once said that brother’s don’t fight, which tells me he didn’t grow up with his. This match has been something both Uso’s have wanted for a while, so I’d expect the match to bang! It will be interesting to see the story they get to this match with.

  • Randy Orton vs. Solo Sikoa

Randy Orton just returned from being out for a year and a half. because of the Bloodline. He just came back and Solo “retired John Cena.” Orton will likely get a match with Roman Reigns for the Universal Title, he’ll get screwed over by Solo and off we go.
