How to REALLY enjoy Free Comic Book Day in Michigan
May is full of nerdy goodness. And one of the best is Free Comic Book Day. Always falling on the 1st Saturday in May. Many comic book stores and libraries all around Michigan will be participating.
FCBD started back in 2001. According to Nationaltoday.com, retailer Joe Field started proposing making an event in conjunction with all of the huge superhero film releases in the summer. Comic Creator, Jim Valentino seconded this thought, saying to start the day with the release of the 2002 Spider-Man movie. Soon after Free Comic Book Day was set for the first Saturday of May every year.
Free Comic Book Day is a great way to introduce new and young readers to comics. Generally, there are many selections for young readers and plenty for adults too. Some of the comics that are going to be available include FCBD 2023 DOG MAN AND THE LEAGUE OF MISFITS, FCBD 2023 UMBRELLA ACADEMY & WITCHER (MR), FCBD 2023 ANIMAL CROSSING & KIRBY MANGA MANIA, FCBD 2023 STAR WARS HIGH REPUB ADVS & AVATAR LAST AIRBENDER, FCBD 2023 CONAN BARBARIAN SP (MR) and FCBD 2023 SPIDEY & FRIENDS #1. Where’s Free Comic Book Day Happening?
Many retailers add bonuses and extra sales on FCBD, so it is best to check your local shop’s social media to see what’s happening.
For instance, Vault of Midnight Detroit will have artist Mark Sarmelin visiting.
Usually, most stores allowed 2-3 comics per visitor, but some have bonus comics for bringing in cans for food drives. Check with your store to see if they are participating.
