Michigan’s Favorite Dog Breeds and its National Puppy Day!

It’s National Puppy Day and what better way to celebrate than by talking about puppies! All puppies are our favorite puppies, right? Well, number crunchers still love to see statistics and have determined what Michigan’s favorite dog breeds are.

But, before that let’s talk about National Puppy Day! It was started in 2004 by Colleen Paige. The day was mainly created to help make awareness of adoptions. Holidays like this help make people remember to not forget about those animals that may need a home. It was adopted into New York legislation in 2013.

There is an article right here that spotlights some of the great Michigan shelters where you could help get your new puppy and change the life of an animal FUREVER!

Reader’s Digest did a list of states and their favorite pets and Michigan had these dogs at the top: Labradors, Goldens, and German Shepards.

While another website, Puppyspot.com, has Michigan’s favorites, more on the fluffier and tiny side, here are a few of their tops:

  • 1. Goldendoodle

A hybrid, obviously mixing a Golden Retriever and a Poodle. They generally have the fur of a Poodle, but the coloring and size of a Golden Retriever. Known for their intelligence (which most Goldens and Poodles are known for also).

  • Yorkshire Terrier

One of the smallest dogs and yet beloved by many. A bit tiny for my interest, but it’s hard to not be in awe of their cute little faces. But what can I say, I own a Chihuahua

  • 3. French Bulldog

I wanted a Frency many years ago, but by that time their popularity shot up to the point it was easier to put a down payment on a house than get this dog. And for good reason, they are cool looking and full of great energy. They just look fun!
