husband and wife posing with two bloody mary's

When I tell people I LOVE Bloody Mary’s I get one of two responses. Either people hate them with a passion or love them with an equal amount of passion. Now why I do I love a good Bloody Mary? I just love that salty, tangy, spicy taste. Plus, According to, they are full of antioxidants and vitamins making them a healthy drink to enjoy. Plus, ironically, they are good to drink as a hangover cure. Now the base mix has to be Zing Zang or it’s hit or miss with house mixes for me. Now some people, including my husband, think I’m crazy because I could drink a Bloody Mary even without liquor in it. I just enjoy them that much.

I think the coolest thing about Bloody Mary’s are that it could be an actual meal if you find the right spot. I’m talking about when they load the top of the Bloody Mary with a bunch of garnishments. Things like sliders, crab legs, chicken wings, cubed cheese, pickles, olives, and anything else that they can stuff in there. Now for me, I like finding these over-the-top Bloody Mary’s for their wow factor because I don’t traditionally eat every single garnishment like most do.

Now my husband and his sisters love a good Michelada. But don’t get those confused with Bloody Mary’s. While both Bloody Mary’s and Michelada’s feature tomato bases and savory flavors their origins, ingredients and liquors are not the same. The Michelada is usually beer-based and tastes refreshing and zesty. A Bloody Mary is thick and vodka-based.

I’ve found 5 over-the-top Bloody Mary’s for you to check out across Michigan. But if you’d like to make your own traditional style Bloody Mary mix from scratch, here’s a 5-star rated recipe from And if Micheladas are more your jam, here’s a great recipe from
