I have lived in Michigan nearly my entire life and had no idea how completely beautiful it was until the past few years. I always traveled south to vacation, but started visiting just about everywhere that Michigan has to offer & if you haven’t had a chance to explore here yet, I am encouraging you to hit the road and explore her beauty! Travel+Leisure published a list of 13 but I will highlight 5 of them here!

• Mackinac Island

  Mackinaw Island was actually just awarded the top island in the continental United States! I was just up on the island in June for the Lilac Festival and it so gorgeous there. You do need to catch a ferry to get to the island. Vehicles are not allowed on the island. You can walk, rent bikes, or take a carriage ride to get around. You may want to walk or bike to burn the calories from all of the fudge you’ll be sampling on the island as that is what they are well-known for!

• Grand Marais

  This is such a great area in the Upper Peninsula! Especially if you love to hunt for rocks like me the Hip-Hop Hippie!

• Munising

  

  Munising is certainly at the top of my list. I was just up there over the 4th of July weekend. Do yourself a favor & start in Grand Marias and hit all of the waterfalls between there & Munising. You’ll also want to check out Pictured Rocks. I took this picture a couple of years ago & its probably one of my most favorites I’ve ever taken. I spent 3 days backpacking Pictured Rocks with a group of women & it was unbelievable breathtaking! Be sure to check it out.

• Empire

  

  This is one of my most favorite places. I took this pic up there last year. Be sure to visit Empire Beach. You can catch the sunset, stargaze, and have a bonfire right on the beach!
