Cat Yoga is Taking Georgia by Storm
With the recent popularity of goat yoga, people are looking for the next best animal to add to their workout routine.
Thanks to the Good Mews cat shelter in Marietta, Georgia, customers now have another pet to add to their line up.
Every so often, the volunteers transform the shelter into a yoga studio. Over 100 cats will cuddle up to you while you are practicing your downward facing dog. Due to the popularity of the Good Mews cat shelter’s classes, there has been a series of pop-up shops throughout the United States. Some other cat yoga locations include New York, San Francisco, Des Moines, and Mobile, Alabama.
One volunteer at the Good Mews cat shelter is also a yoga instructor. After watching a cat video online, she thought the animal shelter could use this special yoga experience. The main purpose of this experience is to get people into the shelter in order to get them to meet the adoptable animals. Volunteers at this location hope that by having the cats meet other humans, it may help them find a home.
All money made from the class is then used to help the shelter. According to CNN, Good Mews “runs an expensive program that places cats with special medical needs, continuing to pay for their care even after they’ve left the shelter.”
Needless to say, cat lovers in the area are flocking to help out the shelter. Whenever the class is offered, it fills up immediately. Katie Misecik, one of the yoga students states that she “really likes the class” since she gets to hang out with the cats, says CNN.
Having the cats attend class can only add to the relaxing yoga experience. We mean, who would not want to work out with felines prancing. Well, unless you are allergic. Then the only real poses you will be able to practice is the warrior sneeze.
