Spotify Rep Responds to Nicki Minaj’s Claims That It Penalized Her
Nicki Minaj has created a social media storm as a result of her latest album “Queen”.
Minaj took to Twitter to rant about her displeasure with Spotify’s promotion of her album and claimed the streaming service tried to “teach her a lesson” by taking away promotional promises because she debuted her album on Apple’s Beats 1 radio ahead of the scheduled Spotify release.
Spotify has since released a statement denying Nicki’s claims of discrimination and favoritism,
“Spotify supported Nicki Minaj with a Times Square billboard, a host of the largest playlists, New Music Friday and the new music release shelf. Her song ‘Bed’ actually saw an increase based on the promotions put behind the campaign. The company continues to be big fans of Nicki.”
Spotify has been accused of favoritism during its promotion of Drake’s album “Scorpion”. The streaming service put Drake’s image and music across countless banners and playlists so much so that some subscribers canceled their accounts.
