I don’t know if it’s just me but I feel so weird anytime my girlfriend pays for anything, especially in public! I always get the sense that whoever is taking her money is thinking I’m such a scrub. I think the stereotype is that the guy pays for things, ESPECIALLY food, or did I make that up?

Last night my girlfriend and I went out to one of my favorite spots, BD’s Mongolian Grill and when we received the bill, she said to me, “I’ll pay for dinner.” While that was super sweet of her to hear, I felt weird with her paying. She doesn’t ever pay for food and I don’t ever want her to feel like she has to pay for us to eat.

I began to start scanning the room to see if anyone was watching her take her card out and place it down on the bill. I’m thinking, “Okay cool, no one’s looking. Hopefully our waiter doesn’t even pay attention to the name on the card.”

Then she pulls this card out:

I’m like “Dammit, it’s a dead giveaway now!” This handsome waiter is going to think “Ha, what a bum!” I couldn’t wait to get out of there.

I know I’m not the only guy out there who’s wife or girlfriend pays for meals but after hearing so many female friends complain about having to cover the bill, it’s created a sense of insecurity for me! Is this normal?! I’m paying tonight!
