‘Black Wife Effect’ Trend: More Proof Of Black Girl Magic
Black girl magic has been hard at work. There’s a new social media trend that shows just that. The “Black Wife Effect” is currently trending thanks to many spouses claiming their Black wives upgraded their appearance. So, what’s the trend? Non-people of color who are in relationships with Black women are showing off the dramatic glow-ups they had after meeting their partners. It’s sort of like a before-and-after reveal.
In one video, a man goes from wearing T-shirts and trucker hats to fitted button-downs and pea coats. In another, a man gets a beard and a haircut that frames his face perfectly. In a third, a man ditches a L.L. Bean aesthetic for more of a Hugo Boss vibe. There are also videos showcasing same-sex-interracial couples. One shows a woman showing off a transformation and pure happiness.
The Black Wife Effect is not simply that they look better or that their style gets an upgrade. It’s also, that you can visibly see their confidence increase, and that’s something that isn’t a physical thing.
The Black Wife Effect Is Gaining Major Traction
Frilancy Hoyle’s TikTok video of her husband’s glow-up has racked up over four million views, showcasing her knack for adding just the right amount of swag to his style. She traded in his shorts for sharp suits, and the transformation was nothing short of jaw-dropping.
Captioning the viral clip of his makeover, Frilancy wrote, “Mikey had all the qualities I was looking for in a life partner but ZERO fashion sense. But I was ok with it because that was a department I could easily take care of. Just added few Zambian seasonings.”
Her followers showered the post with praise for his new look. One person commented, “man went from steve from blue clues to swizz beatz.” Another added, “She seasoned AND marinated this man.” And another chimed in, “Well I be damn this man went from chicken pot pie to OXTAIL STEW [laughing emojis].”
A Different Take on The Trend
Social media user Betsy, who goes by @basicallybetsy2.0 on TikTok and uses they/them pronouns on Instagram, dives into the Black Wife Effect in a TikTok video that has already surpassed 82,000 views. “I feel like there’s so much to break down about it,” they said. “So for me, as I’m watching the Black Wife Effect, what I’m thinking is that everything that Black women touch, they elevate. And that’s not just on a partner scale, that’s on a societal scale.”
The trend has been doing numbers and is still climbing on social media.
