Applications Open For Hulu’s Dating Show, ‘Virgin Island’
There’s another dating show in the works, and they’re accepting applications. Hulu is launching a new dating series Virgin Island, where “stunningly attractive and confident singles” who claim to have never had sex seek to change that.
Variety reported that the show is from ITV America, the producers behind Love Island USA and Queer Eye, and Plimsoll Productions (Shark! Celebrity Infested Waters, A Real Bug’s Life).
According to Deadline, Virgin Island will host a bunch of hot virgins at an island resort, where they will look for “the one.” Throughout the 10-episode series, the contestants will go on dates and participate in romantic activities as they prepare to renounce their virginities.
“As the cast finds heartfelt connections and explores their varying reasons for waiting, there will be plenty of unexpected twists, including new arrivals and departures, all culminating in a dramatic finale where burgeoning relationships are put to the test,” according to the show’s logline.
Applications for “Virgin Island” are open now
If you want to be on the show, applications are now open for U.S. residents aged 21 and over. It’s unclear how Hulu could confirm the chastity of its contestants beyond the honor system, the online application asks wannabe contestants “Are you a virgin?” “Are you a born-again virgin?” “Are you a religious person?” and “Explain why you remain a virgin,” among many other questions.
After looking at the application, it appears that the series will shoot for four weeks outside of the U.S. sometime before August 2024. Executive producers for ITV America are David George and Adam Sher. For Plimsoll, executive producers are Grant Mansfield, Karen Plumb, and Alan Eyres. Peter Geist also serves as an EP.
Reddit Reacts
People took to Reddit to share their thoughts once the news broke about the show’s open applications. Someone jokingly responded to the news saying, “Finally something I’m qualified for.” One person was wondering what many of us are, asking, “How would they keep people from lying just to get on the show?”
One person pointed out a bigger concern, “I feel like this is a SA lawsuit just waiting to happen…” A Redditor responded to this thought and said, “this idea is practically begging for predators to sign on. I’ll probably read the rage bait aftermath and lawsuits in the gossip rags instead, thx.”
It’s worth mentioning that most of the time, “reality” TV is far from it. Many people have called out these kinds of shows for being “fake” or “scripted.” They have to make them entertaining somehow, right?
Virgin Island will join other dating series on Hulu, including ABC’s The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, TLC’s 90 Day Fiancé, Love Island, and the Hulu original Back in the Groove.
