Tigers’ Winning Streak: ‘It Doesn’t Have to Stop’
The Tigers swept the Tampa Bay Rays, 4-3, at Comerica Park on Thursday (Sept. 26). Now, everybody in the Motor City is talking about the team’s incredible rise to the top.
‘This is an Unbelievable Experience’
“Just a huge win for us,” manager AJ Hinch said in a postgame chat with media (per the Detroit News). “Especially how the game started and where we are in the season. We know what’s at stake. This is an unbelievable experience and we don’t want it to stop. It doesn’t have to stop if we can keep playing this way.”
Now, thanks to the Tampa Bay Rays win and Minnesota Twins loss, the Tigers only need one more win to earn a wild-card spot. That could come as early as Friday night (Sept. 27).
I know what it feels like to accomplish something,” Hinch added. He managed the Astros when they won the World Series in 2017, so he knows what winning feels like. “And I want so desperately for these guys to get to taste it. We’re getting closer and closer by the day.”
As of the Tampa Bay Rays victories, the Tigers are 85-74 for the season. But, they’re 30-11 since Aug. 11, so it shows that this team has fought back late in the season and are hungry to make the playoffs.
“Yeah, it was kind of on par for us,” rookie Colt Keith said. “We love to grind the whole game, grind out at-bats and play to the end. We’ve done it so many times. I love that about us. We never give up. AJ always says, play the whole game.” He added, “This was a good win for us, especially in the situation we’re in.”
The Tigers’ wins have drawn out some famous faces to games. Rapper Big Sean was called upon to throw out the first pitch at the game on Thursday. The Tigers’ official Instagram account shows Big Sean smiling in a Tigers jersey, and the photo was also posted in conjunction with the MLB. I would love to see more Detroit celebrities come out for the final Tigers games, especially rapper Eminem. Either way, I’m extra proud to sport my Tigers jerseys out and about right now, knowing that the team is working so hard to bring so much joy to the Motor City. It’s going to be an exciting time if the Tigers get into those wild-card playoffs, and if they do, their opponents better watch out. Reach out to me with your thoughts.
