Big Plans for the Detroit Zoo: Discovery Trails Opening in 2026
As mentioned in Shannon’s Scoop today, big plans are happening at the Detroit Zoo.
The Detroit Zoo has announced a massive new project that’s sure to excite visitors of all ages. The zoo will be creating a 7 acre space called Discovery Trails, set to open in 2026. This immersive experience is designed to give visitors more interactive ways to engage with wildlife, moving beyond the traditional model of viewing animals through glass enclosures.
Visitors will have the opportunity to touch and feed animals like stingrays, making the experience both educational and hands-on. There will also be a barnyard area where guests can get up close with goats, chickens, and even alpacas. For adults, a skywalk trail will be added, allowing people to walk 14 feet above the path and enjoy a bird’s-eye view of the zoo’s new developments.
New Kids Area at the Detroit Zoo
But that’s not all! The Detroit Zoo is planning a new kids’ area with a pretend farmer’s market, an outdoor classroom, and a dedicated space for little ones called the “Little Sprouts” area. It sounds like the perfect place for a family day out, and we’re looking forward to seeing it come to life in just a few years.
