This Is The Most Googled Word In Michigan For Spelling
The prelims of the Scripps National Spelling Bee started yesterday. Google trends revealed the word who’s spelling was most Googled in each state. Michiganders must really like to party, because the most Googled word in Michigan was shenanigans, S-H-E-N-A-N-I-G-A-N-S. It looks like the state got more patience, because last years most Googled word in the state was impatience.
Maybe the winner for the Scripps National Spelling Bee, because when you look at the words that some of the other states misspelled, we got off easy. Here are a couple that stuck out:
- Kansas – Tennessee
- Washington – Resume
- Pennsylvania – People
- Illinois – Tomorrow

The quarterfinals Scripps National Spelling Bee will air today from 8am – 1pm on Ion Plus, which is available free over the air, and on most cable and streaming providers. That will be followed by the Semifinals tonight from 8pm – 10pm and the finals, tomorrow night from 8p – 10p (both of which will take place on Ion). These are the six students who will represent Michigan during the spelling bee; their age, grade and the region they represent:
- Emily Demlow – 14, an 8th grader from Battle Creek
- Anwesha Ahmed – 14, an 8th grader from Detroit
- Brady Bowers – 12, a 7th grader from Grand Rapids
- Clara Mervak – 11, a 5th grader from Kalamazoo
- Owen Smielewski – 13, a 7th grader Lapeer
- Aryan Khedkar – 12, a 7th grader from Waterford
So the next time your planning a night out to get in some shenanigans with your people, remember that the spelling of the most Googled word in Michigan is spelled S-H-E-N-A-N-I-G-A-N-S.
