Today is National Hammock Day and hanging my hammock is one of the most relaxing, enjoyable hobbies that I have! They do call me the Hip Hop Hippie after all. I actually have mine in my trunk so I can throw it up anytime I find a great location. The two spots that I love to hang my hammock is in some pines or next to a body of water. But I also enjoy throwing it up on a couple of trees in my backyard when I can’t sneak away to a spot.

Pure Michigan has compiled a list of 10 relaxing places to hang your hammock in Michigan, but I have highlighted a few from their list and a couple of my own favorite spots!

So you may ask, “okay, you’ve hung your hammock, now what?”. You can relax & nap, read a book, listen to music, meditate, whatever your heart desires. Just don’t get too crazy and flip it because I have definitely done that before!

One of the spots to land on Pure Michigan’s list to hang your hammock is Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park in Ontonagon. I agree! I had the chance to backpack through the area last year & I grabbed this shot of my hammock hang! Just beautiful.

  • Island Lake Recreation Area in Brighton, MI

There is a patch of pines in Island Lake Recreation Area in Brighton that I like to sneak away to. It’s right off the hiking trail, but it feels super secluded. In fact, no-one who walked by even noticed I was hanging in the spot relaxing & having snacks!

  • Proud Lake Recreation Area in Commerce Charter Township, MI

Again, another great spot in the pines at Proud Lake Recreation Area in Commerce Township. There isn’t a designated area so you just have to walk into the woods and find a spot!

  • Ocqueoc Falls in Presque Isle County, MI

This is probably one of my most favorite hammock shots I have taken. It was at Ocqueoc Falls which is the only waterfall in the lower peninsula of Michigan. These are the only two trees that I found along the falls to hang. It’s so relaxing listening to the sound of the rushing water.

  • Tahquamenon Falls State Park in Paradise, MI

Tahquamenon Falls State Park made Pure Michigan’s list & it definitely makes mine too! I have visited the falls, but didn’t get a chance to hammock. I grabbed a shot I took from there so you can imagine what it would be like to relax in that beauty!
